Honeymoon Day 13

Our first day in Venice proper, we took an early bus ferry into the city and like what seemed like millions of others wondered the streets for a few hours trying to take it in and hug any shade that could be found. It was very hot, the temptation to jump in the canals was almost overwhelming.

It's a pretty cool place but walking around was like Glastonbury festival after the main stage closes, we didn't realise it was a Saturday as at this point we had lost track of days lounging in the mountains.

We tried hard to find a non-tourist restaurant for a pasta lunch and eventually found the perfect spot and whiled away a few perfect Venetian hours over some exceptional seafood and pasta with a gorgeous bottle Sauvignon Blanc.

Trying to find a hotel there for tomorrow so we can sample the nightlife as after our lunch we slouched around and didn’t achieve even half of our plans……… was worth it though.

Hopefully we'll book this place but budget going to pot and we don't want to be living on beans for the last two weeks.

Got back in time for an sunset swim in the ocean.

Is that Daniel Craig………..

Honeymoon Day 12

Was sad to leave Innsbruck this morning we had a fantastic time there in the most glorious setting and meet loads of cool people.
The drive through the dolomites was spectacular, unfortunately it was very cloudy and the photos not so easy. Passing through the valleys you got a great sense of how the mountains were formed. Some fantastic driving roads but you have to keep slow to take in all the views.
Our plan was to stay in a hotel in Venice but changed our minds when we saw a campsite with a boat link to the city. The place sounded spectacular with great facilities. In reality we are in an Italian Butlins with entertainment to rival the finest red coats and a Heidi Hi tannoy.
If you love fat leather skinned old people in meat hanger trucks and then this is the place for you.
We thought we are probably the first people in history to have a honeymoon here.
Still made a good home with our new upgraded table and there is a beach and so had our first dip in the Adriatic sea, this was a delight.
Tomorrow we will escape early for Venice and stay till late to avoid the millions of screaming kids. If we were 5 this would be paradise but as honeymooners it brings a tear to the eye.

Honeymoon Day 11 (or 10 part 2)

This is actually what we did yesterday as last night we went out in Innsbruck centre and the schnapps flowed a bit too fast, so waking up late and with a sore head we decided not to head off to Venice and just sat by the pool all day. Heading off early in the morning so we can make the most of a drive through the Dolomites.

This is the next village to where we are staying called Mutters, picture postcard houses stuck to the side of the mountain and totally untouched by modern buildings.

We passed through to go and see the olympic ski jump which is placed at the site where Andreas Hofer (A South Tirolean farmer) rallied an army of rebels to kick Napoleon and the French out of the Tirol region.
With the history lesson over, it was time for for the fun stuff.
Check out the view that the jumper gets with the city below and conveniently a cemetery, right at the bottom if it all goes wrong.
We got lucky and a couple of Austrian ski jumpers were practicing. Unfortunately I didn't have my gear so couldn't show off my skills to Sarah.

This is the regions symbol

Tomorrow we will actually make it to Venice.....

Honeymoon Day 10

Been having a great time in Innsbruck with our own personal guide to show us the best things.
Spectacular wherever you look
The old town in contrast with the surrounding mountains is something to behold.
Ended the day perfectly back at Walter's campsite, having discovered a great wine made by the proprietors friends vineyard in Niederoesterreich (lower Austria) sarah wants to export but he doesn't make enough........ we probably drunk 1% of his yield.
Last night a storm came in and the owner of the campsite worried about our car if hail came down so made a space for us next to his Porsche. We saw some cars that had been hit by the hails before and they are unbelievable, more like they had been in a war zone so we where very grateful. As we watched the lighting the storm turned down the next valley and all we got was heavy rain. Woke up to a puddle on top of the tent but stayed bone try inside.

Honeymoon Day 8

Arrived in Innsbruck in 32 degree heat, was hard work putting up the tent, but what a view.
Staying at Vols 'Camping Stigger'
The best views from any campsite so far.
Meet up with a friend 'Armin' who took us for a taste of the mountain hikes to come
We found a pool and decided to jump in to cool down, unfortunately forgot to take all the items from my pockets and left my iPhone in shorts, so there may not be any tweets, texts or calls for a while. I blame Armin as he had just finished telling us how he did that with his phone last week in Crete.
Currently the phone is in a sealed bag with some silica gels to dry it out but we don't hold much hope. We have a back up but its the 3g and the sim from the 4 is a micro so if anyone has any ideas how to make a micro fit a normal sim slot please let us know.

Drinking homemade snapps now with Walter the owner of the campsite and local bar / pizzeria .

Honeymoon Day 7

Woke up to find this in the river next to the campsite, I assured Sarah I am a surfer of great repute, but alas no board to prove it.

Had a great day in a sun soaked Munich. We meet up with the lovely Vera & Sebastian, who we first meet in the Maldives when we had just got engaged and drank cocktails with them into the small hours.

They have just got engaged so congratulations and much luck with the wedding plans.

Went to lunch and shared a traditional Bavarian sample platter including duck, various sausages, suckling pig, dumplings etc etc. Even with the help of our friends we couldn’t finish it.

We had to walk it off so headed along the river. BBQ's & sunbathing, this doesn't happen on the Thames.

Feeling hot in the blazing sun we headed to an Italian ice cream parlor for vanillia ice cream covered in expresso. With renewed energy it was time for some drinks in the sun and we discovered Spritz.

Not done yet we set off to a German Bier Garten.

Said goodbye to our friends (hopefully not for long) and returned to the tent for our last night in Munich, it will be spent sleeping off a perfect Munchen day.

Heading off to Innsbruck in the morning.

Honeymoon Day 6

You may notice day 5 missing, the reasons for this are two fold, 1; the internet prices at the holiday inn at .30Euro a minute are ridiculous and 2; we found a great cocktail bar after our sushi dinner called Ver-O-Peso where a Brasilian dude called Valdemar da Silva makes around 10 cocktails in one go and they where some of the best we've ever tasted, it was impossible to have only 1 and nearly impossible to walk home afterwards.

Anyway got up eventually and headed into the city centre to see the markets and sample some local faire.
the markets where amazing, and full of people drinking before we'd even finished our morning coffee

we brought some delights to cook tonight as we returned to the camping lifestyle. Before heading off to camp we stopped at the famous

these took some effort.

Off to watch the football now
